Scholarships within our Reach

A common misconception about scholarships is that many of us think they are only available to those minority group of people with the highest GPA who are the smartest and best at everything in the class. However, this is not actually true; there are scholarships out there for every type of student seeking for different achievements. When it comes to winning the scholarship, the most common and logical suggestion is that you need to, first and foremost, narrow down the scope of the list to scholarships that you can realistically win.

Provided that you pursue the following advice, here is a list of scholarship types you’ll likely encounter.

1.Merit-based Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships often referred to as academic scholarships, are mainly awarded to students who have demonstrated an outstanding history of academic achievements. These are for students with the most exceptional GPA (averagely 4.0) and the most impressive series of extracurricular activities and public service. Through a merit scholarship, scholars typically receive a substantial financial payout and are considered very prominent. Academic scholarships also confer a certain level of prestige on the recipient which can create a good impression on the employer for stepping into the employment world after college.

2.Academically Average Performance Scholarship

If top academic scholarships freak you out, don’t run off so soon. Your average grade doesn’t mean that you are not eligible to win a scholarship. Not by a long shot. Average student scholarships do take a student’s academic record into consideration, but they also give weight to a student’s community service, extra curriculum activities, leadership qualities, and their contest essays. Don’t jump into the wrong conclusion that just because your high school GPA isn’t 4.0 doesn’t mean that you are eligible for a scholarship.

3.Athletic scholarship

If sports are your thing, shift your attention to athletic scholarships. Students tending to apply for an athletic scholarship will have to demonstrate a high level of ability in their sport of choice as well as a solid academic background. There are scholarships for nearly every sport; from volleyball to golf, basketball, badminton, tennis, football, swimming and gymnastics. In the case of applying for an athletic scholarship, students will need to be nominated by their coach or some other school official since college recruiters are always looking for the best athletes to bring to their campus.

4.Minority Scholarship

There are also a large number of minority scholarships sponsored by individuals or non-profit organization aimed at diversifying the certain areas of the professional workforce. These scholarships may be specified towards students with particular interests such as engineering, medicine or mathematics. If you are part of a certain ethnicity, it is a good idea to apply for a minority scholarship and represent your culture and possibly win money while doing so.

Regardless of the type of scholarship you pursue, remember that there is something out there for everyone and opportunities might come in your way no matter your grade or your background.
