STEM GLAM GALLERY: EVAN SPEIGEL
Evan Spiegel was born to lawyer parents, John W. Speigel and Melissa Ann Thomas, on June 4, 1990. His native town is Los Angeles, California. He met and dated Australian Victoria Secret Model Miranda Kerr in 2015. The two got married in Los Angeles in May 2017 and just welcomed a baby son this May.
Before entering the Stanford University, Spiegel enrolled in design classes at Otis College of Art and Design and at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He did internships in Red Bull company and biomedical company. He was also part of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
While he was studying product design at Stanford, he introduced an idea of Snapchat for his class project. His classmates criticized. Spiegel did not care and even left Stanford just before earning the degree, to make his idea bigger. In March 2012, he co-founded the Snapchat company with his fellows, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown. He is now one of the youngest billionaires in the world with the wealth of $4 billion.
Each and every day, about 170 million people around the world use Snapchat and share their stories and disappearing photos. According to 2017 report done by Pew Research Center, 69 percent of teens in the U.S. preferred using snapchat to using Facebook.
The Snapchat hero, Spiegel has delivered his perspective about life at the 2018 Code Conference on May 29, 2017.
“So, obviously, life is not about making money. Life’s not about winning awards. It’s not about winning competitions or whatever,... Life is really about having an impact on the world, changing the way that people experience the world, changing the way that you experience the world.”
