Outstanding Community Scholarship Program (For students residing in the United States)

This scholarship is awarded in honor of Kyaw Tun Naing, the founder of Youth Society for Education Nonprofit Organization, to encourage student involvement in community service and to recognize the students who contributed extraordinary efforts in making a difference in their community.

 

Amount of scholarship: Two awards of  $500 each

 

 

Scholarship Criteria

The applicant will be considered for the scholarship based on his or her:

• Engagement in community service activities

• Commitment to serve and lead the community while addressing the needs of others

• Endurance and persistence in accomplishing a mission or task

• Potential to succeed academically and be a role model among fellow colleagues

 

 

Eligibility

At the time of applying for this scholarship, the applicant must:

• Be attending or be accepted to attend a 2-year community college or high school (Senior) in the United States

• Have at least one volunteering experience or internship experience with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization

• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

 

Current YSE Officers and their family members are NOT eligible for this scholarship.

 

 

Application requirements and procedure

The scholarship application must be completed and submitted online no later than September 14th, 2018. The applicant will be requested to provide:

• Current unofficial transcript

• One letter of recommendation (from teachers, counselors, and/or community leaders)

• Personal statement (350-500 words)

• An essay reflecting your thoughts on community service and volunteerism (350-500 words)

 

 

Award announcement and disbursement

• The winners will be announced on the website and notified via email on November 7th, 2018.

• The awards will be presented to the winners at the YSE scholarship ceremony in December 2018.
